Types of part-time jobs
It might be difficult to find part-time work that directly relates to your studies. However, part-time jobs can help you to build experience and valuable transferable skills, such as organisation, team-working, and much more! You could find part-time work in:
- Restaurants, cafes and bars
- Retail stores and supermarkets
- Seasonal jobs

Things to check when looking at part-time jobs
There are a few factors you should think about before starting your search for part-time work:
There are several different types of contract that might be available to you as a part-time worker:
- Seasonal contracts
- Zero-hour contracts
- Part-time contracts
If you are working part-time, you will be entitled to receive National Minimum Wage, which is calculated depending on your age.
- Your employer should list how often you will be paid, in your contract.

Having a part-time job is a great way to build your transferrable skills, but make sure you are taking time to look after yourself too!
- Ensure you are giving yourself enough time to work on your studies
- Make sure you are organised and plan your time effectively
- Take time out for yourself to rest, take part in hobbies, and see your friends!
Another important consideration is the location of your part-time job. You should think about how long it will take you to travel:
