This article gives advice for University staff on how to work off campus using a University supplied laptop.

 

Checklist

You will first need to login into the laptop on campus using your staff account credentials to create a profile. You will not be able to log in to the laptop if you do not do this before you go off site.
A mobile charger will be supplied with laptop. The charger from your docking stations can also be used to charge the laptop. Ensure you remember to take your charger with you when you go off site.

N and K drive

If you need access to your N Drive you will need to Map your Drive, to map your drive you need to be using the VPN.

VPN

The Virtual Private Network (VPN) can be used when working on the laptop at home. The VPN will already be installed on the laptop and will need configuring.

Setup the VPN on a staff laptop

 

Please note that staff must only access the University corporate systems via the VPN as this ensures data held within the systems is kept secure and maintains our compliance with the GDPR requirements of handling data securely. The Information Commissioner's Office has provided further data protection guidance.

 

Wifi

You can connect to any available wireless networks as you would on a personal device. If you are visiting a location that uses an eduroam wireless network, you need to log in to you laptop with your username@port.ac.uk e.g. bloggsj@port.ac.uk from the log in screen.
