Training, mentoring and support with Digital Skills

Welcome to Digital Skills

The Digital Skills team are here to help you boost your digital confidence, ensuring you can effectively use the tools available at the University.  We offer the following training and support:

  • Scheduled sessions, including the IT Induction which is part of Core Training for all new staff
  • 1:1s and mentoring  
  • Customised training for groups of staff
  • Digital Skills Training for Students 
  • Beyond training we create resources such as videos and guides for systems being used across the University.

Regardless of your current knowledge or preferred learning style, we are here to support you.

Staff IT Induction from 3 Feb 2025

The Staff IT Induction is part of Core Training for all staff.  The Induction is delivered by one of the Digital Skills training team via Zoom, we currently schedule 2 sessions a month, dates will appear in the schedule below.

To book onto your session:

  1. Log onto Docebo the University Learning Management system for staff, click on the blue Single Sign-On button, you do not need to enter a Username or Password.  You may be prompted to enter your network details.
  2. Click on My Learning Plans
  3. Select Induction Plan and select University IT Induction for New Staff and select a session
  4. You will receive an email confirming that you have been enrolled in the session
  5. On the day of the induction log into,  click on Induction Plan, select University IT Induction for New Staff a button will appear to allow you to access the training

 1:1 Digital Skills Appointment & Mentoring

These 30 minute meetings are typically delivered via Zoom, but we can hold the meeting in person if you would prefer.

They are perfect if you have a specific issue or you would like some advice.

LinkedIn Learning

LinkedIn Learning is an online video library of over 13,000 courses covering business, technical and creative skills.  Many of the courses come come equipped with exercise files and assessments.  With Curator access staff can also create their own playlists of LinkedIn videos to share with students. 

LinkedIn Learning is available for staff and students via SSO (Single Sign-on) credentials

IT Training for students

We offer the following services for students:

  • The creation and delivery of customised sessions for groups of students. Recent examples include, Using Google to Work Collaboratively on a Project, Creating Charts and Graphs from data collected from a Form and a range of Introductory courses for Pre-sessional students. Please contact please contact digitalskills@port.ac.uk to discuss further.
  • Students are welcome to book on the majority of our scheduled courses. These are shown in the calendar on the Student IT training webpage.
