If you have been supplied a University laptop, you can find out how to use it effectively when off campus.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

Connecting to the VPN will allow you to access University services as if you were on campus. You will find more applications will be available through AppsAnywhere and you can connect to your network drives and library resources more easily.

Please note: University laptops come with the VPN installed under Start > Palo Alto Networks > GlobalProtect.

AppsAnywhere

AppsAnywhere is the University Apps store which allows students and staff to download software and apps for study and work. The majority of these are available anywhere, on and off campus, anytime. Instructions on how to use AppsAnywhere can be found

Your University email can be accessed anywhere by visiting gmail.com and signing in with your University account.

Cisco Webex Classroom

Cisco Webex Classroom can be used for online classes, for full guidance visit the link below.

Cisco Webex

Zoom

Zoom can also be used for video conferencing, online meetings with collaboration tools built in and recording/transcript functions. For full instructions please visit the Zoom article. To sign-in to Zoom:

Google My Drive and Shared drives

Sign in to Google Drive with your University account. Any shared drives you have access to will show in the Shared drives section in the menu on the left. You can find Google Drive from the app drawer located in the top right of the page in Chrome.

You can use the desktop versions of Google Backup & Sync and Google File Stream to sync files to and from your computer and backup your data.

Google Meet

Google Meet is a video conferencing app. Google Meet integrates with G Suite versions of Google Calendar and Gmail and shows the complete list of participants and scheduled meetings.

Telephony services (staff only)

If you wish to use your desk phone number when working remotely, there are several options, each of which can be requested using Telephony request form. Cisco Jabber is the recommended method of using your University extension number when off campus.

  • Cisco Jabber - an all-in-one communication tool. See your contacts' availability and instantly communicate using video, instant messaging (IM), voice, voice messaging, and conferencing. You can use the Jabber app on a Windows PC or Mac, Android device or iPhone. You can request for yourself or your team.
  • Single number reach (3 ring divert) - can be used if you wish to divert your desk number to another number after 3 rings. Management approval is required as there is an increased chance of additional mobile phone charges.

You can modify your personal telephony options, such as single number reach, voicemail and simultaneous ringing from the online Cisco Self-care Portal:

N and K drives

Your N drive is your own personal network storage area, the K drive is a place to store departmental documents that you would like to be accessed by others. If you are connected to the university's VPN you can access both N and K drives.
