Elevator Pitch Competition

You're in a lift. You need to impress the visiting Professor. You have one minute before the lift doors open again: submit a one minute video of your best and most impactful elevator pitch!

When?

Thursday 13 July 2023.

Where?

Shortlisted entries will be showcased online after the competition closes.

Who can apply?

All current doctoral, MPhil and MRes research students who have not graduated before 1 June 2023.

Guidelines - what we need from you

  • A one-minute video of you talking to the camera with no props or aids. Each student can submit ONE pitch. Please send your video in MP4 format or as a YouTube (or other streaming service) link. Please note that you will not be judged on the quality of the video itself so you do not need to go to great lengths when filming your pitch to enter the competition. Possible methods of recording your entry include:
    - Using the video camera function on your smartphone to record your presentation
    - Using a webcam attached to your computer
  • Your thesis title.
  • Completed consent form.

Judging criteria

The degree to which the pitch is:

  • coherent and informative;
  • positive and persuasive;
  • clear about the impact of the research.

Judges

The panel will comprise professors from across the University.

Only the competition winners will be announced; other rankings will not be made available.

Prizes

  • First place £100
  • Second place £50
