Each year, the University of Portsmouth confers a number of Honorary Awards, one of higher education's most significant commendations.
Our Honorary Graduates receive their award at the Graduation ceremonies, and attendees at those ceremonies will have the fantastic opportunity to hear from these inspirational individuals.
We award Honorary Degrees to nationally or internationally recognised individuals who have achieved significant distinction in their field and have a connection to the University, local area or are interested in similar research themes.
We also consider the award of Honorary Fellowships to individuals of distinction who have made a significant contribution to the University and its wider community.
The below would not normally be considered for an Honorary Degree or Honorary Fellowship:
- Sitting Member of Parliament
- Existing Member of Staff
- Existing University Governor
- Posthumous Nomination
Nominating someone for an honorary award
University staff, students and members of the public can nominate someone for an Honorary Award. Nominations for Honorary awards are accepted year round.
In your nomination you will need to evidence which eligibility criteria your nominee should be considered against and how the nominee fits that/those criteria. For reference the full eligibility criteria can be found in this PDF file.
