How to use Student View

Please ensure that you have access to your Student View. If you haven't used Student View before, please sign in with the same username and password you used for the old student portal. If you have forgotten your username or password, please contact the IS Service Desk on +44 (0)2392847777 or via Email on servicedesk@port.ac.uk

If you’re bringing children, bear in mind that the ceremony is a formal occasion and lasts for around 1.5 hours. Depending on whether a child is comfortable sitting for that long, guests with young children may wish to watch the ceremony live online.

Ticketing

For any questions, please contact graduation@port.ac.uk

How do I book tickets for my Graduation ceremony?

Tickets are booked through the MyGraduation page on your Student View. You will only have access to this when the booking system is open. You will receive an email when the system opens. Please note, you must book a place for yourself as well as for your guests.

The deadline for guaranteeing your place at this year’s Graduation ceremonies is Friday 21st April 2023. If you do not book your place by the deadline we cannot guarantee a space will be available although we will do our best to accommodate you. If there are any spaces available these will be bookable on a first come first served basis via MyGraduation when the system reopens in early May.

You don’t need to wait until you know your results to book tickets, formal photography, and academic dress. You will automatically receive a full refund from the University and Graduation Attire if you cannot attend your Graduation ceremony for academic reasons.

How guest tickets work

You will receive free tickets for yourself and two guests. Please note you will not be sitting with your guests during the ceremony.

We will email you if/when additional guest tickets will be available to purchase for your ceremony.  Additional tickets will cost £16 for persons aged 13 and over. To give everybody the same opportunity additional tickets, where available, will initially be limited to two guests per student.

Children

The ceremony will be live-streamed on the University’s YouTube channel for any family members who are unable to attend in person.

If you’re bringing children, please bear in mind that the ceremony is a formal occasion and lasts for around 1-1.5 hours. Depending on whether a child is comfortable sitting for that long, guests with young children may wish to watch the ceremony live online.  The ceremony will be live-streamed on the University’s YouTube channel for any family members who are unable to attend in person.

Child tickets are free. Children aged 2–12 need a ticket that can be booked using the "My Graduation" tab in your Student View. Infants (ages 0–2) will not be given a ticket or allocated a seat so they will need to be sat on an adult's lap. There is no space for prams/pushchairs in the main auditorium and these will need to be left in the Octagon area of the Guildhall.

Please note that children cannot be left unattended and must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. The safety and well-being of children are the responsibility of accompanying adults. Children cannot be cared for by the University of Portsmouth or Portsmouth Guildhall members of staff.

Carer tickets

If you or one of your guests has a registered carer, we’ll provide an additional free carer ticket. Let us know if you need a carer ticket by providing details in the ‘special requirements’ field when you book your guest tickets using the "My Graduation" tab in your Student View.

Requests for specific or accessible seating

If you or your guests need specific seating or need help accessing the venue, let us know when you book your tickets by using the ‘special requirements’ fields. We’ll do our best to accommodate your request. If you’ve already booked tickets, you can update your booking by logging into MyGraduation via your Student View.

We may contact you to confirm exactly what requirements you need so you have the best possible experience on the day.

Wheelchairs

If you or your guests use a wheelchair, let us know by using the ‘special requirements’ field when you book your tickets.

MRES students

If you’re an MRES student and think you’ve been invited to the wrong ceremony, email us at graduation@port.ac.uk so we can investigate. Include your name and student number.

Learning at Work students

If you’re a Learning at Work student, your booking form may not have the correct course title. This is because Learning at Work courses appear differently on your student record.

You’ll still Graduate on your expected degree programme and the details will be correct on the day.

Late ticket bookings

If you haven’t booked your ticket by the deadline you should contact the Graduation team on graduation@port.ac.uk immediately. It may not be possible for you to attend a ceremony if you don’t book within the ticket booking period.

You don’t need to wait until you know your results to book tickets, formal photography and academic dress. If you can’t attend a Graduation ceremony due to academic reasons, you’ll receive a full refund from University and its external providers.

Canceling tickets

To cancel tickets you should login to your Student View and select the MyGraduation tab.

Refunds

Once you’ve purchased tickets, we can only give refunds for academic or visa reasons, or in exceptional circumstances.

Requests for refunds should normally be received within 30 days of the last Graduation ceremony. All approved refunds will be credited to the account used when making the original payment.

As a general rule, refunds will not be approved if you decide to attend another event such as a holiday or wedding rather than your Graduation.

Academic reasons

If you’re unable to attend your Graduation ceremony due to academic reasons, you’ll automatically receive a full refund of any monies paid to the University or any of its external suppliers. (This doesn’t include if you’re eligible to attend the Graduation ceremony if you’ve been awarded an Ordinary Degree.)

Visa reasons

If you or any of your guests receive a visa refusal you should cancel the relevant tickets via MyGraduation on your Student View and upload evidence of the visa refusal. We’ll then review the request for a refund.

Exceptional circumstances

Exceptional circumstances that could result in a refund include (but are not limited to):

  • Bereavement
  • Illness
  • Deployment
  • Jury service

To request a refund for exceptional circumstances, cancel the relevant tickets via MyGraduation on your Student View and upload evidence of the exceptional circumstances. We’ll then review the request for a refund.

Booking tickets for a different ceremony

It’s not normally possible for you to attend a ceremony that isn’t the scheduled ceremony for your school/department.

If you can’t attend your scheduled ceremony due to exceptional circumstances you can request a deferral to a different day or the following year via MyGraduation on your Student View.

If you’re not attending your Graduation

If you can’t or don’t want to attend your Graduation, you should select “Attend in absentia” via MyGraduation on your Student View

Your name will still be printed in the ceremony programme (provided you consent) but will not be read out.

If you want to stop receiving Graduation emails, please email graduation@port.ac.uk and we’ll remove you from the mailing list.
