Spying through blinds

How good are you at recalling a witnessed event?

3 min read

This is a memory experiment in which participants view a video and are then asked to report it in an interview.

Study Description

You will be asked to watch a 19-minute videotape of a secret mission and to recall the mission in a subsequent interview. You will complete two questionnaires about your impressions before and after the interview.

The purpose of this study is to see how well people can recall a video they have witnessed. We will also look at the effects of our interviewing techniques. We ultimately aim to help police officers in facilitating eyewitnesses' and informants' recall.

What will participants be doing?

You will watch a 19-minute videotape of a secret mission. Afterwards, you will be asked to complete a short pre-interview questionnaire and be given as much time as you like to prepare for the interview.

The interview will be held in King Henry Building and will be audio recorded and later transcribed. If the interviewer does not think you gave a complete enough recall, you may be asked to write a statement.

Duration

Approximately 50 minutes.
