Student Ambassadors
As a Student Ambassador, working for the Recruitment and Outreach team, you have the opportunity to boost your experience and make a difference.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Positively representing the University of Portsmouth at recruitment and outreach events, both locally and nationally
- Providing information to young people (years 7-13) about education pathways so that they can make informed decisions about their future
- Encouraging young people from various backgrounds to consider higher education and/or the University of Portsmouth as an option for the future
- Supporting staff with the delivery of workshops in schools, colleges and on campus events
- Delivering a range of activities to young people (years 7 to 13), both on and off campus, such as campus tours, halls tours, student life presentations and student panel Q&A sessions
- Supervising groups of young people at events to ensure they remain safe and engaged

Faculty Student Guides and Ambassadors
Many students apply to be a Student Guide or Ambassador for their Faculty. As a guide or ambassador, you’ll get the opportunity to earn while you learn and get valuable work experience.
Your main responsibilities are to welcome visitors to faculty open days, experience days and open evenings. You’ll take visitors on tours of the buildings and campus and share your experience with prospective students and their parents or guardians. By guiding prospective students, you’ll get the opportunity to answer questions they have about their course, the University in general and share your own experiences.
Ambassadors are also employed to work on education and outreach events. For example, you could assist academic staff in running practical workshops for school aged young people.
As a guide or ambassador, you’ll also help set up events.

How to apply
The application process to become a Student Ambassador or Guide varies depending on your faculty.
Some faculties ask you to complete a form, or send your application by email. Some will interview you in a group setting, where you’ll take part in exercises such as presentations and knowledge recall.

- An undergraduate or postgraduate student in the faculty
- An enthusiastic and motivated team player
- Confident, honest and reliable
- Friendly and approachable
- Flexible (some weekend/evening work required)
International Student Ambassadors
If you're an international student passionate about the Portsmouth experience, you can apply for a part-time role as an International Student Ambassador.
Your main responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with visits to campus for international visitors, including campus tours
- Contributing social media content and writing blogs about student life in Portsmouth
- Participating in social activities for international students, helping to develop the social programme, and supporting integration on campus
- Assisting at UK education fairs and other recruitment events
- Participating in focus groups, student panels and photoshoots
- Office admin tasks
- Assisting in follow up communications with prospective international students
As an International Student Ambassador, you may also be able to work in your home country during vacation periods.

Our Global Office advertise vacancies in the Student news, through the Careers and Employability Service and at the Students' Union. You should also follow the Global Office on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to find out about vacancies.
To apply for an International Student Ambassador role, email international-ambassadors@port.ac.uk when you see a vacancy. You'll be sent an application form to complete and return before the vacancy deadline.
To apply, you should be:
- A student of any discipline, based on campus
- Available to work a minimum of 3 hours per week
- Flexible (some weekend/evening work required)
