Storm Eunice

17 February 2022

Update: 2.00pm, Friday 18 February

We are aware that there is storm damage to some of our University buildings. Our Estates Teams are aware of this and dealing with these incidents and monitoring the situation across our estate.

Our strong recommendation is that all staff and students currently on campus now remain inside the building where they are until the storm peak has passed as the wind is very strong.

We expect the worst of the storm to pass by late afternoon and you can keep up to date with the local situation on local radio and websites.

The caretakers are checking that windows are secured. If you notice any damage please speak to a member of staff who will log this with our Estates Helpdesk.

We will provide a further update later today if there are any changes to the situation.

Update: 9.20pm, Thursday 17 February

This evening Portsmouth City Council has declared a major incident in relation to Storm Eunice which is expected to arrive in Portsmouth overnight and tomorrow morning.

As a result of this, and the prevailing advice at this time, we are expecting disruption to our activities tomorrow.

All face-to-face teaching for tomorrow, Friday 18 February, is cancelled. Planned online teaching will continue as scheduled.

University buildings

University buildings will be open for staff and students.

Students – Travelling to campus

Please do not travel to campus unless it is safe for you to do so.

We expect the storm will pass through our area during the course of the day. Face-to-face teaching will resume as per your timetable on Monday.

If you have any questions please speak to your course leader.

Staff – Travelling to campus

We recognise that the disruption to travel and school closures will prevent some staff from being able to travel to campus. If you are impacted please speak to your line manager as soon as possible and agree working from home if you can.  Please do not travel to campus unless it is safe for you to do so.

If you have any questions please speak to your line manager in the first instance.
