A scientific event involving a small number of UK military personnel and a number of scientists from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is taking place in Portsmouth city centre and areas around the Naval Dockyard from 27 September to 15 October (9.00am - 5.00pm).

The purpose of the activity is to test future technologies designed to protect soldiers and the public in city environments.

There will be very little disruption to students, staff, local residents and businesses, apart from seeing scientists place experimental equipment on a small selection of buildings, and a pair of small drones which will be in operation.

People taking part in the scientific event will mostly be out of public view, but may be seen walking between buildings and carrying equipment. The military personnel will be wearing standard camouflage uniforms.

The activity area will be clearly signposted, with a private film crew capturing the activity. For more information, please visit www.gov.uk/dstl or call Dstl’s helpline on 023 9261 6710.
