The University is dedicated to helping all its students achieve their best. Our Careers and Employability Service works hard to develop strong connections with graduate employers, offering unique opportunities that set students up for success in their academic studies and future careers.

A great example is the IBM Career Coaching Scheme, which has been successfully operated by the Careers and Employability Service for over a decade. They pair Portsmouth students with volunteer coaches from IBM who support them in identifying and working towards their personal and professional goals.

This year's scheme began with a special Welcome Event, where participating students met their IBM coaches for the first time. The Careers and Employability Centre was filled with excitement and enthusiasm as students discussed their aspirations for the coming months.

For 2024/2025, the IBM Coaching Scheme is specifically designed for students with disabilities or neurodivergence. The Careers and Employability staff collaborated closely with the Additional Support and Disability Advice Centre (ASDAC) to tailor the programme to the unique needs of these students. Many of this year's IBM coaches also have disabilities or neurodivergence, providing invaluable insights and experiences to help students navigate the challenges and opportunities in the workplace.

The 2024/2025 Coaching Scheme is now closed for applications but will reopen next year for eligible students. For more information about the scheme or additional support services for students with disabilities or special needs, please contact ASDAC or the Careers and Employability Service.
