Summers in Portsmouth are great. With the sunshine, our seaside city livens up and a lot of rejuvenating activities take place. Here are some of the exciting things for the summer that Portsmouth has to offer:
Beach
Walking by the beach on a sunny day is relaxing. Southsea Commons – the green spaces located just before the beach – are also great to continue you walk on a warm, sunny day. Heading to the beach after and taking a sunbath or soaking under the lovely sun after the winter months makes for a lovely summer day. It is fun and a rejuvenating time!
Victoria Park
The lovely Victoria Park with its beautiful blossoms is as green as anyone you can imagine. It offers an amazing natural, scenic, and soothing surrounding to read a book or even have a fun picnic with friends on a lovely sunny day. This makes for a very positive and relaxing summer experience!
Museums
Portsmouth, although is famous for being a military port, it’s also historic and aesthetic in its own rights! The Cumberland House Natural History Museum offers beautiful historical insights into the nature in the Portsmouth area. It also includes a mesmerizing butterfly house, bee house, and other zones of animal evolution. It is a fun place to visit – and it’s free. Portsmouth Museum and Art Gallery is also a great one to visit - especially for and creative art and craft lovers.
Portsdown Hill
A bit away from the city centre and the sea, nothing can beat the scenic view of our Pompey – this is a nickname for Portsmouth - from Portsdown Hill. Do grab an ice cream and catch some sun in the lush green grasses and enjoy the cool breeze!
Southsea Commons
The Commons are great for a walk but not only. A lot of events take place there during the summer. This year, the Pride and D-day events were held there. Later in July the lovely and colorful Kite festival takes place yearly. In August, Victorious festival – a music festival, headliners this year include Fatboy Slim and Snow Patrol – takes place on there every year. Last but not least, Clarence Pier! It is a funfair and an arcade. It’s a great place for summer days full of fun, warmth and happiness.
These are my top picks. I hope they gave you some ideas on how to make the most of your summer in Pompey. The city usually gets an extra fun and lively vibe this time of the year, with laughs, cheers, and giggles all around, which surely boosts your inner self!
