A Self-Employed Placement (SEP) is an opportunity to develop your enterprise & entrepreneurship skills whilst starting-up and running a business, social enterprise or simply acting as a freelancer during your placement year.

The placement is about you creating your own employment rather than being employed by an organisation.

You are your own boss, working for yourself with dedicated time to build or further develop your ‘business’, with support from the University and its partners.

This session aims to provide an overview of the Self-Employed Placement option and help you decide if it is right for you.

What will we cover cover:

  • Overview of the Self-Employed Placement
  • Expectations during the year
  • What other students have done on their SEP and how they found it
  • Is it for me?
  • How do I apply
  • Key dates for applying

For more information on the SEP year in advance of attending visit our website.

Please note the self-employed placement option is not available to international students on a study visa. This is because students on an international student visa are not permitted to engage in any form of business activity as stated by the Home Office. Students can access support to develop an idea alongside their studies via the Student StartUp Team but can not start the business whilst on their student visa.
