Student Communications Survey

We asked students how we can better communicate with them

We asked students how we can better communicate with them, so they can receive the right information through the right channel at the right time.

Over 1,400 students took part in the Student Communications Survey in May. For comparison, the survey included some benchmarkable questions to a similar survey in May 2023.

Student Communications Survey results

The survey run by our Data and Insights Team revealed a number of key trends and helpful feedback including:

  • email has increased in popularity as the best way to communicate with students
  • Instagram and WhatsApp are the most popular social channels
  • afternoons and Friday evening are the most popular times to host students events
  • most students didn’t think anything was missing on the MyPort website but attendance monitoring and IT support could be more visible on the homepage
  • more could be done to cater for distance learners

You said, we will do

In response to student feedback, the Internal Communications Team are planning a number of actions including the following:

  • launch a new WhatsApp channel for students in autumn 2025
  • recommend to event organisers that more student events are held during afternoons and Friday evening
  • add attendance and IT support more prominently on MyPort homepage during summer 2025
  • add more information about placements in the student newsletter from autumn 2025
  • add distance learners and commuter students chat groups in the new Unibuddy Community chat group in autumn 2025

Thanks to all the students for providing their feedback. We’ll be in touch with students with more details once these plans have been finalised.
