Asbestos
Safely managing asbestos risks across the University.
Introduction
Asbestos-related diseases are among the greatest causes of work-related deaths in Great Britain. The use of asbestos was banned in 1999, however many asbestos-containing materials are still in place in many buildings, including across the University. The risks of asbestos stem from its composition of tiny, invisible fibres that can be breathed in when disturbed, causing asbestos-related diseases.
This page will provide health and safety information in relation to the effective management of asbestos-containing material at the University of Portsmouth.
Asbestos Management Team
The Asbestos Management Team is responsible for the management of asbestos-containing material within the University.
The team consists of the following personnel:
- Tahir Ahmed - University of Portsmouth Asbestos Duty Holder
- Jonathan Latter - University of Portsmouth Asbestos Responsible Person
Work may only be performed on any asbestos-containing material with the authority of the responsible person.
