We are currently recruiting for DSAA Assistants to work in the short-term with the Department of
Student and Academic Administration (DSAA) during three key events this summer.
1. Graduation DSAA Assistant (14 - 30 July 2023) Application deadline for this role is 12 May 2023*.
2. Confirmation and Clearing DSAA Assistant (10 - 18 August 2023) Application deadline for this role is 24 July 2023*.
3. Registration DSAA Assistant (08 September - 31 October 2023) Application deadline for this role is 04 August 2023*.
(*We continually review the applications as they are received and we reserve the right to close the form prior to these dates should sufficient applications be received to fill the roles available).
You may apply for one, two or all three events. Please indicate on the application form which events you are available for. Successful applicants will be informed by email and exact days and hours of work will be confirmed at a later date closer to each event. There will be a requirement to attend training prior to each event starting. You may be required for one or all of the events to which you apply. An application does not guarantee an offer of work.
There may be availability for additional days, e.g. Clearing work may continue until September or Registration work may continue to the end of October. We require staff to be available to work all of the work sessions that are allocated.
It is a requirement of appointment that staff undertake the full training provided by the DSAA. The time for this training is paid for at the normal rate provided the offer of work has been accepted.
The rate of pay for this post is £10.67 per hour

Registration DSAA Assistant
Do you have a keen eye for detail and enjoy working in a busy environment, dealing with people face to face? If so, becoming a Registration DSAA Assistant may be the role for you. We are looking for enthusiastic individuals who enjoy dealing with people and have the skills to work accurately in a fast paced environment with excellent communication skills.
As a Registration Assistant, your main task will be to carry out identity checks for our International student population, including EU students. You will need to be able to work accurately inputting data and communicate effectively with students whose first language may not be English. You will also need to be IT literate and able to use a range of software packages. The role requires a high level of accuracy and good attention to detail as you will be checking students' identification documents, such as passports and visas. You will also need to be able to work under pressure as there are times when it can be extremely busy. You will need to be friendly and welcoming at all times and display a high level of sensitivity to our new students, as this may be their first time away from home and trying to ensure they provide the correct visa documentation to be able to
register at the University.
The main duties of the role are:
● Checking a students' passport, visa and biometric residence permit (BRP) to ensure they are valid.
● Updating the University’s student record system accurately with their term time address and identity check details.
● Scanning identity documents, using bespoke software.
● Issuing new students with their BRP card and student ID card.
● Responding to general queries regarding registration and the induction process.
● Signposting students to the correct University Department or Student Service.
● Assisting with other registration related tasks, such as remote ID checks for students who are not studying on campus and answering general registration queries by email.
● Queue management.

Graduation DSAA Assistant
Is customer service your thing? Do you thrive in a busy, fast-paced environment? Are you flexible? Do you love being surrounded by people? Then you might have what it takes to work as a Graduation DSAA Assistant.
Graduation is the pinnacle of our students' academic careers, a celebration of all their hard work to achieve their degree and we need enthusiastic, customer-facing individuals to come and work for us. As a Graduation Assistant you could be doing a number of different things and no two days are
the same:
● Answering queries and selling tickets at our Helpdesk in Ravelin Sports Centre.
● Assisting our gowning and photography suppliers in Ravelin Sports Centre.
● Handing out programmes and answering questions in Guildhall Square.
● Scanning tickets as Graduates arrive at the Guildhall.
● Showing graduates and guests to their seats in the Guildhall.
● Acting as a graduate procession marshal.
● Acting as a graduate stand-in for those who are missing to ensure the procession runs smoothly.
● Putting programmes together.
● Directing graduates and their guests to the various locations around campus.
● Marshalling graduates for their group photographs and helping out at the Celebratory
Receptions in Ravelin Park.
● Scanning and handing out award documents.
You’ll need to be prepared to work long hours and switch to a new task at the drop of a hat. In return you’ll get camaraderie, support and a great sense of achievement in contributing to the running of the graduation ceremonies. Confirmation & Clearing DSAA Assistant
Are you interested in being on the front-line of the University’s Admissions service during the busy Clearing period? If yes, join the team as a Confirmation & Clearing Assistant. The Admissions Department is looking for high quality, enthusiastic individuals to guide potential applicants through the Clearing application process, from initial enquiry to offering someone a place on their dream course.
This is a customer facing role and will require post-holders to communicate clearly and professionally with a wide range of audiences, across a number of platforms. These platforms include telephone, a webform, the Student System, Live Chat and email. The post-holder may also be required to carry out validation or other administrative tasks, which will require a high degree of accuracy and a good attention to detail. below:
● Responding to queries online and over the phone, offering advice and guidance to prospective applicants on the Clearing application process.
● Inputting data quickly and accurately into the University’s Database, including personal information, qualifications etc.
● Reviewing Clearing applications and issuing offers of admission in accordance with the eligibility criteria provided.
● Assisting with other Admissions-related administrative duties, for example qualification checking and responding to general enquiries.
● Maintaining a positive and professional approach when interacting with applicants, potential applicants, and other staff across the University.
● Dealing with potential applicants on the telephone with tact and a degree of sympathy, particularly those who may be anxious and upset.
