The ENACTUS Society enables innovative creators like Jona to implement their ideas
Jona Schubert, MSc Energy and Power Systems Management student, twice won the UK finals of the prestigious iTwin4Good Challenge and was awarded the opportunity of travelling to Kazakhstan to compete against competitors from around the globe.
The iTwin4Good Challenge series, jointly developed by Bentley and ENACTUS, empowers university students from across the world to combine their software development skills and passion for social action to address UN Sustainable Development Goals — affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action.
Jona’s winning project focused on creating an asset management system for hospitals and healthcare systems. This innovative solution aims to ease the burden on the understaffed NHS, particularly benefiting nurses, by ensuring efficient utilisation and availability of healthcare assets such as patient monitors, beds, incubators, and wheelchairs. Jona’s success was supported by fellow student Simba Dube, current President of the UoP ENACTUS society, who made significant contributions to the market research stages of the project, and helped shape Jona’s final presentation.
This international stage of the competition was held in Astana, Kazakhstan, with students from the UK competing against others from Brazil, Germany, Canada and Ireland.

Jona said: "The journey to Kazakhstan was both long and taxing, but it was completely worth it. I've learned a lot about the country's interesting culture through their amazing hospitality and made many friends along the way from all parts of the world."
Reflecting on his experience overall, Jona said: "Participating in Bentley's iTwin4Good competition has been both exciting and rewarding. Throughout this journey, I've gained valuable transferable skills and connected with many industry professionals. The iTwin platform has been instrumental in translating my vision into a (digital) reality!
“The competition has provided me with numerous benefits, including mentorship from industry experts, project funding, and exposure to the cutting-edge projects developed by Bentley Systems.”
Looking ahead, Jona hopes to be in a role where he can contribute to the creation of innovative solutions that drive sustainability, whether that’s through technology, infrastructure, or energy systems.
This achievement not only highlights the Jona's dedication and ingenuity but also underscores the University's commitment to fostering talent that addresses real-world challenges.
iTwin4Good Challenge 2024
The iTwin4Good Challenge series has been jointly developed by Bentley Systems and Enactus to encourage university students from across the world to address UN Sustainable Development Goals—for example, affordable and clean energy, sustainable cities and communities, and climate action—using the iTwin Platform, Bentley’s infrastructure digital twin technology.
so this experience has really inspired
me Bentley's platform is an amazing
system the itwin platform I think what
makes it really exciting is the wide
reaching applications it has real time
insights an amazing overview of all your
data on one screen with the it twin for
good challenge we took the students
through a six- we process that took them
right from the ideation concept through
implementation to now where they can
then go on to make impact we are talking
about using digital T platforms to
create sustainable cities to create
Sustainable Solutions to environmental
challenges we designed this competition
in a way that requires the students to
use the itwin platform because we really
see that as gamechanging technology and
it's just remarkable what they're able
to come up with in terms of solving
problems that have been around for a
really long time I think being able to
bring young people in
you know and getting them involved at an
early stage you know with the technology
so they can see what technology is doing
now and how it can benefit our industry
people need to see things they're going
to believe in them if I have a problem
I'm failing to contextualize you know
using the itun platform to really make
it something that people can see and
interact with it really makes my story
that much more powerful using the it
technology was a great way to learn
something new to create a great solution
and to help change the world the amount
of people we could impact using the
Bentley system was quite literally
endless it it was an amazing opportunity
to be able to use it within our idea
even as a storytelling device uh in as
much as it is a technical one I think
the I platform has um a lot of
implications for my own career and my
own future project
