An e-scooter rental scheme is being trialled in Portsmouth from next week, which may help you make essential journeys in a socially distanced way.

In Portsmouth, the e-scooter rental trial will be operated by Voi Technology, who will be operating trials in 21 cities across the UK from this month. Participants are encouraged to take part in online training, through Voi’s online driving school.

The nearest stations to the campus where you can pick up or drop off your scooter include Guildhall Square, the seafront, train stations and more. You can check the full list of locations on this Portsmouth City Council map.

Riders will be required to follow the same rules of the road as cyclists, to be 18 or over and to have at least a provisional driving licence. Privately owned e-scooters remain illegal, except on private land.

To get started, download the Voi app for free from Apple’s App Store or Google's Play Store, or visit Voi Scooters's website for more information.
