As October is internationally recognised as Cyber Security Awareness month, the University’s new Cyber Security Team are providing information to help ensure we all know what we can do to help protect not only ourselves but also the University from cyber crime.
Cyber crime is a major threat to both the University and all of us personally. Fraudsters are constantly trying different ways to obtain sensitive and valuable information that they use to expand their criminal enterprise including trying to steal your personal information such as passwords and bank details etc.
Security tips
Passwords
- Keep them secure - treat them like your house keys!
- Test your strength - how long would it take for your password to be cracked?
- Use different passwords for each site that you visit, and consider using a reputable Password Manager.
Cyber @ Home
- Keep you, and your friends and family safe online
- Has your email address been leaked? If so, change your password!
Phishing
- Discover the tell-tale signs to spot a phishing email or text message.
- “Quishing” (or QR code phishing) - read more about a new type of phishing threat.
Device security
- Stay up to date with security updates, and consider encrypting your devices.
