How to survey students
How University students and staff can request a research survey
If you wish to survey students at the University, you may have to submit a request to the Student Survey Research Group.
University students and staff who wish to survey more than 250 students and/or students across more than one Department/School need to gain permission from the Student Survey Request Group.
Favourable ethical opinion may be needed to run a student survey, more information on Research Ethics Reviews can be found on our Research Ethics page. Permissions for a student survey can be submitted to both the Ethics Committee and the Student Survey Request Group at the same time.
The role of the Student Survey Request Group is to ensure that all student survey proposals, consider the following:
- informed consent and data protection
- survey methodology
- evaluation and dissemination of the survey results
- scheduling of the survey - at the most appropriate time for students and the University.
The process is simple, and the group usually reviews and responds to requests quickly.
The Student Survey Request site provides information on how to prepare and submit a request. Request submitted by the 1st of the month will be reviewed that month and a decision will be communicated within 20 working days.
