What is Portia?

Portia is your new AI chatbot due to be launched in July 2025, designed to make student life easier, faster, and a whole lot smarter. Whether you need advice on accessing wellbeing support, want to know how to get exam advice or information on events – Portia is here to help, anytime, anywhere.

 

Why has Portia been introduced?

We want to support you and provide better access to the information you need at any time of the day. Here’s how Portia helps us deliver a better service to you:

  1. Instant access– Portia is always available for you with no queues and no waiting time.
  2. Easy to use – Portia is easy-to-use chat on your phone or computer.
  3. Supportive – Portia can be used to get information on key topics like events, accommodation, finance, wellbeing and more.
  4. Evolving – the great thing about Portia is it is trained by real queries from students like you and will continue to improve the more questions you ask to give you that consistent information you are looking for.
  5. Consistency - more consistent information across Student Support Services – fewer “we’ll get back to you” moments.
  6. Anonymity - everything is anonymous - your privacy remains paramount

 

Where do I find Portia?

Portia has been designed as a mobile-first experience and is accessible through the MyPort guidance and support pages.

It can be found in the bottom right corner of most of our Student Support Services pages.

 

What if Portia can’t answer my question?

If Portia isn’t able to provide the information you need you can still be routed to live support during business hours.

 

Accuracy of Information

The AI chatbot is powered by Galvia. As an AI, it may generate answers which contain errors, biases or are misleading.

We cannot guarantee the reliability, accuracy or suitability of any output. Nor are we liable for any errors, inaccuracies or misleading content generated by the AI Chatbot.

When using the AI chatbot, please verify the accuracy and appropriateness of all answers, and ensure your use complies with all laws and ethical standards. Please look at the terms and conditions on the User Agreement page for more details.

 

Personal Information

Important - please make sure any queries you submit do not contain information which identifies you or any other person. The chatbot is designed to be anonymous and allow you to maintain anonymity.

It cannot use or retrieve your personal data, such as that stored in Moodle, Timetable or SITS.
