Events

Ensuring safety is a priority for events throughout the University.

Introduction

Events are an important part of University life, but they require special consideration as normal control measures may not be sufficient. The University may also host events as part of an income generation scheme, and in doing so may take on a legal liability for the event.

Please complete the form below, and email to hsservicedesk@port.ac.uk and david.goodwin@port.ac.uk. Please note that the event management plan should also be accompanied by a risk assessment

For More Information

It is important that Stewards at both indoor and outdoor events are fully briefed as to the actions to take in the event of a fire (or other emergency). Please see the University General Emergency Instructions.

When planning to organise a firework display, guidance can be found below.

It is essential that the Health, Safety and Compliance Team are contacted at the planning stage of the event. The key consideration is the size and the location of the firework dropping zone.

When hiring inflatables, the Health and Safety Executive recommends that the guidelines at Pipa.org.uk are followed.

Following a pre-qualification exercise for marquee hire, the University permits the use of certain suppliers. Please contact the University Finance Office for further details.
