Moving from Google to Microsoft 365
We’re upgrading from Google services to Microsoft 365 to improve the tools you use for your studies. Soon, you’ll be working in Microsoft Outlook for email and calendars, OneDrive for file storage, and Microsoft Teams for communication and collaboration. You’ll also have access to Microsoft Copilot Chat to assist with research, ideas, and productivity.
This page gives you a clear breakdown of what’s changing, when your new tools will be ready, and how to get support throughout the move.
What’s changing?
We’re moving your email, calendar, contacts, chat, video calls, and personal files from Google services to Microsoft 365 so all your tools are in one connected platform.
Move from (Google) | Move to (Microsoft) | What the new tool is for |
---|---|---|
Gmail | Outlook | Manages all your university email in one place with integrated calendar and contacts. |
Google Calendar | Outlook | Organises events, lectures, deadlines, and video calls alongside your email. |
Google Contacts | Outlook | Keeps your university contacts in one directory, linked to your email and calendar. |
Google Chat | Microsoft Teams | Instant messaging with classmates and staff, plus group chats and collaboration tools. |
Google Meet | Microsoft Teams | Online video calls for classes, tutorials, and group work with video, audio, and screen sharing. |
Google Drive | OneDrive | Secure cloud storage for your personal study files with easy sharing and access anywhere. |
When is it happening?
Your migration is underway. We’ll email you with your launch date and let you know when your new Outlook and OneDrive accounts are ready.
What you need to do
- No action is needed before migration. It happens automatically in the background.
- Keep using Google as usual over the summer until you receive your confirmation email.
- Your Google Drive documents will be copied to OneDrive in a folder named _MWP_Migration.
- If you already use OneDrive or Outlook, you may see files appear early. Do not edit or move them until we confirm migration is complete.
Get help and support
