This page details the instructions for setting up Microsoft MFA.
What is MFA?
All University systems are protected by Multifactor authentication (MFA) which is an enhanced security method that works by sending you a code and asking you to enter it when logging into the service. Depending on the service you are accessing the MFA provider may vary. We have 3 MFA providers at the University which you may be prompted to configure.
- University MFA
- Microsoft MFA
- Google 2-Step verification
You will be prompted to set up Microsoft MFA the first time you access a Microsoft service. We recommend that you use Microsoft Authenticator.
- Download Microsoft Authenticator app to your mobile device.
- Sign in to a M365 service using your University email address and password.
- When prompted select Add Work or school account in the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Choose Scan QR code in the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Scan the QR code displayed on the screen using your mobile device.
- After scanning, you may be prompted to enter a number shown on your screen into the Authenticator app (this may take a few seconds to appear).
- Once setup is complete, your University account will appear in the Microsoft Authenticator app, displaying a verification code that may be required when signing in to Microsoft services
