As term gets underway there’s lots of opportunities over the coming weeks for you to meet other like-minded students, get support from University services, and discover Portsmouth - all in a Covid safe, socially-distanced way.

Get free entry to Portsmouth’s top attractions

The Students’ Union has bagged free entry for Portsmouth students to some of the city’s most popular attractions, including Spinnaker Tower, The D-Day Story Museum and the Blue Reef Aquarium. If those aren’t up your street, you can also join one of their free history, religious or Portsmouth city walking tours. All venues have Covid safety and social distancing measures in place with face coverings required, and the tours are of groups of no more than 6 people in line with Government guidance.

Meet other students

Join Virtual Freshers Fayre to find out which societies and activities you can get involved with and connect with other students at the Virtual Wellbeing Cafe every Wednesday afternoon. The Students’ Union is also hosting socially-distanced meet and greet events for international and postgraduate students, and students who are also parents (spaces are limited for safety, so booking is essential).

Learn to cook

Find out how to make a one-pan bolognese, mushroom and lentil curry, or cashew carbonara to impress your flatmates. Join one of the free cooking demonstrations, running until Tuesday 10 November at the Students’ Union Building.

Mark Black History Month

Join one of our free socially-distanced film screenings at the Portsmouth in partnership with Portsmouth Film Society, or hear Nelson Mandela’s former bodyguard speak on Thursday 29 October. Find out more about Black History Month.

Brush up your academic skills

With the term now underway, there’s lots of support available. Get help with academic analysis and criticism, adjusting to university and more. If you’d like to find out more about the Additional Support and Disability Advice Centre (ASDAC) you can drop into their Study Skills Virtual Cafe to talk to staff and meet other students.
