student halls donation boxes

Students moving out of halls over the summer donated over 1 tonne of goods to the British Heart Foundation

Students moving out of halls over the summer donated over 1 tonne of goods to the British Heart Foundation via collection bins placed in University-managed halls of residence – estimated by the charity to have a retail value of £2,200.

These funds help power vital cardiovascular research – work that saves and improves lives across the UK.

The charity collection bins have also diverted 1.1 tonnes of items away from landfill, supporting a circular economy and reducing the environmental footprint of the moving-out period.

Kimberly Williams, Sustainability and Facilities Coordinator, organised for the charity collection bins to be installed in halls over the summer period and said, “I am thrilled that the Pack for Good campaign went so well over the summer. It was great to see the impact our students can have, and to raise funds for such a vital charity was brilliant. All the hall managers worked so enthusiastically with me to get these installed, and I’m excited to work with them again!”

The Sustainability Team will be repeating the initiative during the moving-out period, with plans to increase the amount of donations through increased student engagement.
