During my time at the University of Portsmouth, Global Week has been one of the most exciting events, celebrating the diversity of the University community. Last year, my friends and I had the opportunity to set up a stand to represent Kenya at the Festival of Cultures — and it was an experience I’ll never forget!

From the moment we started setting up, the excitement kicked in. The University provided us with a budget to decorate our stand, which made the process even more fun. We filled our space with Kenyan flags, traditional clothing, and posters showcasing the beauty of our country. The setup was a mix of creativity and teamwork, and seeing our vision come to life was incredibly rewarding.

One of the best parts of the day was talking to so many people who stopped by to learn about Kenya. It was amazing to see how interested and curious everyone was! We shared fun facts about our country, talked about Kenyan wildlife, music, and traditions, and even taught people a few Swahili phrases.

We also got to visit other stands, where we met students from different backgrounds and learned about their cultures. The atmosphere was so lively, filled with music, colourful displays, and the delicious smell of food from all over the world.

Taking part in Global Week was one of the highlights of my time at the University. It was so much fun to set up the stand, meet new people, and proudly represent Kenya. The event truly shows how diverse and welcoming the University community is, and it’s a great way to celebrate different cultures while making new friends.
