I am working in STFC’s (government agency that carries out scientific research) Business Incubation Department branch as a “Virtual reality developer for digital prototyping”.
So far it’s going great. I have access to the newest technology and I can request the hardware/software that I want to work with. I’m already working on 2 projects and receiving positive feedback.
My main project at the moment is to improve a current VR artefact. Under supervision, I work on my own ideas (if they are accepted by my manager) and am able to be creative.
Even though I work with VR I have access to other technologies like 3D printing and I talk to other placement students that are carrying out some interesting research. There are already some big projects that I’m going to start in a month or so. But as I’ll be working with other businesses, I’ve signed an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) which means I’m unable to talk about it.
All in all I think I really couldn’t be more pleased with how this placement is going so far.
