Tell us about your employer

The Morgan Sindall Group is made up of 9 businesses, I am working in the Construction sector – within London & Home Counties. They are a leading UK construction and regeneration group delivering public and private sector projects of all sizes.

What’s your role?

My role within the business is classed as ‘Design Manager’. However, the company have an excellent scheme that allows you to witness all aspects of construction including Project Manager, Quantity Surveyor, Site Manager. I have only been with the company 2 months but have already ensured I gain experience in these roles at a later date.

I have never had a dull-day, and am constantly kept on my toes with handling the workload and new information thrown my way – I love it!

What have you learnt so far?

I couldn’t even begin to tell you what I have learnt, there is just so much! Everyday you learn something new. I’ve been using programmes to communicate with architects and engineers on a daily basis.

I’ve also been organising architects drawings, requesting information and heading out on site to see freshly-poured piles and ground floor slabs.

What are you going to be working on in the future?

Currently I’m based on a site next to the London Eye, but am about to begin learning about projects at two of our other sites in London. I’ll be assisting my boss, Senior Design Manager, with his workload on the projects.

What would you say to any student considering doing a placement?

Absolutely do it, especially in these strange times (Covid and all) having first-hand experience in a job you may want to pursue in the future is an absolute must.

Interested in being Megan’s replacement in 2021?
