Welcome to Digital Skills
The Digital Skills team supports you in building the practical technology skills you’ll use throughout your studies and beyond. We focus on clear, hands-on learning to help you feel confident using everyday digital tools, whether you’re just getting started or looking to strengthen your existing skills.
As part of this support, you’ll have access to the following learning options:
- Instructor-led training sessions – Join live, guided sessions delivered by our expert trainers, with opportunities to ask questions and practise using tools such as Microsoft Word, and Excel.
- LinkedIn Learning – A large online learning library covering business, creative and technology topics. Learn at your own pace, at a time that suits you.

We offer a range of training courses to support staff in building practical digital skills across key systems and tools. All courses can be booked through the booking system on this page.
M365 Office apps
- Getting Started with Microsoft Word
Develop essential Word skills, including formatting, styles, headers, tables of contents, and track changes.
- Getting Started with Microsoft PowerPoint
Gain key PowerPoint skills, including slide design, formatting, visuals, themes, and presentation setup.
- Getting Started with Microsoft Excel
Build key Excel skills, including formulas, data management, and formatting.
To book a session, review our booking system below. Select a course title to view full details and see upcoming dates in the calendar.
- All sessions are delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams and are fully instructor-led.
- Session availability may vary depending on demand.

Booking guidance
You will find the actual booking page in the section below, within the Book your IT training section.
- Under Select a service, choose the course you would like to book from the list.
- Select the date you wish to attend using the calendar shown below the session tiles.
Note: Only dates shown in bold have bookable slots available. The next available session will be highlighted with a blue circle.
- Once you have selected a date, choose the session time. Each session will have one available time option.
- In the Add your details section, enter your name and email address. Add your University of Portsmouth student number in the Additional information field.
- Select Book to complete your booking. You will see a confirmation message on screen, receive a confirmation email, and the session will automatically be added to your Outlook calendar.
- Open your original confirmation email and select the Join your appointment button. Alternatively, find the session in your Outlook calendar, open the event, and select Join.
- This will take you directly into the Microsoft Teams meeting.
- Open your original confirmation email and select the Reschedule button. This will open the bookings page.
- You will see a confirmation of your currently booked date and time. Next to these details, select Reschedule or Cancel booking.
- If you choose to reschedule, you will be able to select a new date for the session.
- If you cancel, your booking will be removed and you will no longer be listed as an attendee for the course.

- Go to LinkedIn Learning via the University portal.
- Log in with your University username and password.
- Search for the OneDrive courses above and start learning at your own pace.

Enable University alerts
Turn on notifications for critical updates like closures, safety alerts, and urgent service disruptions.
