This article contains information for University staff only.
What is Managed Service?
The Managed Service scheme is a centrally funded provision of standard computing equipment for the majority of University staff and student facing areas, run by Information Services.
This central service enables the University to standardise equipment which improves value for money and support provisions.
Eligibility and scope
Who is eligible for Managed Service funded equipment?
Any permanent staff member employed at the university.
What if I am not eligible for Managed Service funded equipment?
The same Managed Service equipment can be provided, however this will need to be funded by the requesting department. This includes staff on fixed term, casual, or PTHP (part time hourly paid) posts.
What equipment am I be eligible for?
Managed Service funded equipment includes a standard primary desktop or laptop with 2 widescreen monitors.
What if I need something else?
If additional equipment or a different specification to standard is required, such as a second monitor or a higher specification device, Managed Service will assist with the procurement of this equipment but it will need to be funded by the requesting department. See the ordering process section below for relevant form.
How often will I be entitled to equipment?
To ensure best value to the University the lifespan and replacement of equipment is regularly reviewed in relation to warranties. Currently users may request a replacement after 4 years. Earlier replacements must be funded by the requesting department.
Ordering process
- Standard device requests should be initiated via the IS self service form.
- All requests must meet the eligibility criteria and will be validated by Managed Service.
- The provision of laptop as a primary device is encouraged, however desktops are available should they be required.
- Primary monitors will only be replaced when they are less than 24” or no longer fit for purpose.
- Non-Standard Equipment requests should be initiated by the Non-Standard Equipment self service form.
- Users must inform IS via the Service Desk when the user of equipment changes.
