This article will explain how to:

When you login for the first time there will be some configuration that will need to happen before you can use the device.
- Power on device
- Log in using your University email address and password
- You will need to connect to the VPN to access certain applications, so we recommend that you connect to the VPN. (In order to do this, you will need to have configured MFA - see below)
- In the System Tray click on the Global Protect Globe
- The Global Protect dialogue box will display, click on Connect to establish the connection, Click here to view image
- Your browser will open a new tab prompting you to log in using your University username and password. Your Username is UP, followed by your University Student ID, e.g., UP345678
- A prompt will appear requesting a MFA Code from the app on your phone.
- Once the VPN has established, the globe will be blue with a small blue shield
Troubleshooting VPN
If your VPN does not connect within 30 seconds click on the Click here to launch Global Protect link on the first tab.
Appsanywhere is our method of distributing software. Some software will require you to be on the VPN in order to search for, and install the software.
- Open a browser tab and visit appsanywhere.port.ac.uk
- The login screen will appear type your username, e.g. UP345678 and your password
- Once logged in, if you are on the VPN you will see all available software
- Start typing the name of the software you need and a list will be displayed - the more characters you enter the narrower the list
- Once you see the software you need, click on the Launch button
Note: if you need specific software for a lecture, ensure you start downloading as soon as you are logged in.
- Log into Student View page
- You will be prompted to log in using your University email address and password.
- Visit the self service password reset page
- Click on Forgotten Password
- Type your username e.g, UP345678
- An email will be sent to the personal email that we have on record
- Windows 11 WiFi settings can be found from the Network and Volume section of the task bar.
Select it to bring up a selection of controls and toggle on the WiFi, if not already on, then click the right arrow next to it to display the current list of available networks. - Select eduroam, tick Connect automatically then select Connect
- Enter your network account username e.g. up874068@port.ac.uk followed by your password, then select OK
- You should now be connected to the wireless network.
To access some of the University services you will need to have Multi-Factor authentication configured. We recommend that you use the Microsoft Authenticator App which is available from App store:
- Set up the Microsoft Authenticator App, download the app from your app store, we recommend using the Microsoft Authenticator App and click on Next.
- To set up your account, click on Next. You will be asked if you have a Work or School account, select School, Scan the QR code on your phone. You will now be prompted for a code to confirm the authenticator is linked with your account.
- A final dialogue box will confirm success.
