The report and support tool helps University of Portsmouth students make the campus safer

Keeping our community protected

The Report and Support tool is a way to ensure that everyone can feel safe on or off campus

Report and Support is an online tool available to all students and staff at the University. It allows you to report to us if something has happened to you or someone else within our community.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and welcome at the University of Portsmouth. Bullying, harassment, prejudice, discrimination, and sexual misconduct of any kind are completely unacceptable. Our campus and community should be a safe and inclusive space where everyone can learn, work, socialise, and grow together. We take all reports very seriously and there is lots of support available to you if you need it.

If you, or someone you know, has experienced discrimination, hate crime, sexual assault, sexual harassment, bullying, or any form of harassment, or if you have witnessed this behaviour, we encourage you to report it.

The University uses the information provided through Report and Support to better understand the types of incidents taking place within our community. This helps us take positive action, challenge unacceptable behaviour, and provide support to those who have been affected.

Reports can be submitted either anonymously or informally:

Anonymous reports

These do not identify individuals. While it may not always be possible to take direct action, anonymous reports are invaluable in helping the University identify patterns, understand issues within our community, and develop appropriate support, education campaigns, and preventative measures.

Informal reports

These enable a University adviser to contact you to discuss your concerns, explore possible options, and provide advice and support. Submitting an informal report does not commit you to making a formal complaint. However, should you decide to pursue a formal process, an adviser can guide and support you throughout.

Using Report and Support is simple and straightforward. By completing an online form, you can help the University create a safer and more inclusive environment. We encourage everyone to report incidents of unacceptable behaviour whenever they occur.

Student story - safety on campus

It may sometimes feel as though making a report will not make a difference, but the following example demonstrates how reporting concerns can lead to positive action being taken.

A student submitted an anonymous report after experiencing harassment from a group of contractors working near the Chaplaincy building. The student described the inappropriate behaviour and its impact through Report and Support. Although the report was anonymous, the adviser was able to identify the company involved from the information provided and contact its customer services department.

The company took the complaint seriously, identifying the workers who had been on site at the time. They were interviewed by the Head of Operations, who explained the impact of their behaviour and reminded them of their professional responsibilities while working on site and interacting with members of the public. The University later received an apology from the company, expressing regret for the incident and the distress caused.

Don't be afraid to use the Support and Report tool if you need to.

This is one example of how Report and Support can help challenge socially unacceptable behaviour both on and around campus. Every report contributes to making our community safer, more respectful, and more inclusive for everyone.

If you see it, hear it, witness it, or experience it, please report it
