Generally university is a safe place to be - but it's common sense to keep an eye on your belongings.
Try not to leave them unattended anywhere, or only with someone that you trust.
Lost property
When items are found on campus they should be taken to the nearest Lost Property Point within the University. All items will be logged on a spreadsheet. They'll be held at the local property points for a maximum period of 4 weeks.
Lost property left on the University bus should be enquired about by contacting First Bus at this webpage.
What happens to lost property
Student cards should be sent to the MyPort team in University House. They will then contact the student to let them know where their card can be collected.
The staff member will be contacted and asked to collect their card from where it is being held. The card will be destroyed if not claimed within 1 month.
Any contractor and white cards should be sent to Adrian Partington in Estates who will endeavour to find out who they belong to so they can be reunited with their owners. The cards will be destroyed if not claimed within 1 month.
If the owner can be identified then they will be contacted and asked to retrieve their item. Items containing personal information like bank cards will be destroyed if not claimed within 30 days. Everything else will be given to charity if not claimed within 30 days.
Library books will be returned to the University Library.
If unclaimed after 1 month lost passports will sent to the Government Passport Office (HM Passport Office, Globe House , 89 Eccleston Square , London, SW1V 1PN) or the relevant embassy.
If unclaimed after 1 month lost driving licenses will be sent back to the Drivers Customer Services Correspondence Team, DVLA, Swansea, SA6 7JL.
Staff will check the device for any identifying information and contact the owner if possible.
Any data storage devices unclaimed after 1 month will be destroyed.
Staff will check to see if there is a name or student number within the notes, and contact the owner to let them know where their notes can be collected. If they aren't claimed within 1 month, they will be destroyed.
These will be kept for 1 month and then disposed of if not claimed.
A sticker will be put on the bicycle warning the user that it will be removed if not taken away within 2 weeks. If it is still there after 2 weeks it will be removed
