Don't just ditch it - do something about it

Moving out soon? Here’s how to get rid of anything you no longer need when your tenancy ends.

Knowing where to dispose of the things you no longer need can be overwhelming but leaving things on the pavement could lead to enforcement action.

Here’s some top tips to help make things easier:

Furniture

There are lots of local charities in Portsmouth accepting furniture in good condition and many will collect for free. Check out Sue Ryder, Rowans Hospice and the British Heart Foundation websites for options available to you.

Kitchenware and bedding

Clean, usable items and furniture can be donated to the Moving On Project, Portsmouth, to support individuals and families in need of a fresh start.

Textiles, books, and decorative items

These can be donated to one of the many charity shops across the city.

Doorstep collections

Recycling

Small appliances

Place these in a carrier bag on top of your recycling bin on collection day.

Large household items

Textiles and shoes

Drop them at one of 75+ Salvation Army textile banks across the city.

Books and DVDs

These can be recycled at one of 30+ British Heart Foundation media banks around the city.

You can find details of all recycling banks across the city on the Council’s website, along with lots more details all about rubbish and recycling in Portsmouth – including when your collection days are for general rubbish and your recycling.
