In response to your feedback, the University has significantly improved the learning environment and technological accessibility across campus.

Pods Pods Pods

You said: We need more study spaces to support our learning.

What we did: We have installed a number of individual and group learning pods across campus.

We know how important it is to have a quiet and comfortable place to study and learn. After listening to your feedback, we’re happy to announce we have purchased additional single and 2 person pods in the Library. We have also refurbished a number of damaged social seating and group working spaces, so now they look new.

Whether you’re solo-studying or working in a small group, these pods will provide you with an ideal space to concentrate without any distractions.

Bring your own devices (BYOD)

We know how important it is to be able to use your devices with ease and to know where to get support if you need it, which is why our Digital Skills Team is improving online support and our BYOD stations have been redesigned to make sure they are a harmonious place to study.

You said: We need greater and easier use of university software on private devices.

What we did: Over the next few months, we will be moving to a cloud-based version of AppsAnywhere, allowing greater access to university software from your own computers.

You said: We want increased checks on BYOD workstations to ensure they are tidy and fit for use.

We did: All our BYOD workstations and monitors have been redesigned making them easier to use, and unnecessary cables have been removed.

You said: We want improved instructions for using IT services and to clearly outline the support available, especially for BYOD support.

We did: Our Digital Skills team are in the process of refreshing the IT help webpages to improve the information available on-line, they have also created new BYOD Bring your own devices support pages.

Improved resources

You said: We want more high-spec resources available across the campus.

We did: We have built a new Remote Access room with high speed network access, new remote access PCs are now appearing online and can be used 24 hours a day.

You said: We want an increase access to power outlets around the campus.

We did: We are working with our Estates team to ensure all future new and refreshed buildings will be designed to have increased power outlets and WiFi, making them far more IT friendly.

Where can I find study pods?

You’ll find these pods placed throughout campus, so you won’t have to go far to find one.  There’s no need to book either – just turn up and use them when they are available.

Individual study pods: These comfortable, sound-proof booths are designed to provide screening and restrict external noise.

Group study pods: These hold up to four people and have a large table with easy-access USB / plug points, a screen and changeable colour sky lights.

Accessible study pod: This has an adjustable desk and a fully adjustable chair within it.
