Share Your Experience and Help Shape Change

The University of Portsmouth is committed to ensuring every student feels they truly belong here and they are part of the university community. We're inviting students to participate in listening circles where you can share your experiences of belonging at the university, particularly through the lens of race and nationality.

What are listening circles?

Listening circles are safe, confidential spaces for honest conversation. They're not focus groups or complaint sessions – they're opportunities for genuine dialogue where your experiences and perspectives are valued and heard. Each circle will be facilitated in a safe manner, ensuring everyone feels comfortable contributing at whatever level feels right for them.

What will we discuss?

We want to hear about your lived experience at Portsmouth:

  • What makes you feel you belong here – or what creates barriers to belonging?
  • How do aspects of your identity, including race and nationality, shape your university experience?
  • What specific changes would make a meaningful difference to you and students like you?

Why participate?

Your insights will directly inform our Race Equality Charter which promotes an inclusive university experience for all students. This isn't a tick-box exercise – we're committed to evidence-based change that responds to what you actually need, not what we assume you need. Previous student voices have already shaped significant policy and practice changes across the university.
