We are delighted to announce Aumrak Shute and Anna Nievrova as the winners of the University competition to find artists for the Portsmouth 100 sculpture trail.
Aumrak is studying BA Animation and Anna is studying Interior Architecture and Design; their lion sculptures will be installed in the city over the summer.
When asked about the inspiration to take part in the competition, Anna said:
“I was inspired to take part in this project because it offered a unique opportunity to be involved in something large-scale and meaningful, where I could showcase my artistic skills while contributing to the celebration of Portsmouth’s 100th anniversary. I wanted my design to reflect the diversity and spirit of the city I love.”
Aumrak went on to say:
“I thought the idea of displaying my artistic capabilities would be an honour in a city home to many different types of artists. It would also be a valuable chance to challenge myself creatively and continue growing and developing as a young artist.”
Over the coming weeks, Aumrak and Anna will transform the blank lions into striking sculptures that will be part of the Pride of Lions Sculpture Trail over the summer. We’ll be sharing their progress with you.
A University Pride of Lions
Anna and Aumrak are not the only members of the University community being represented on the Trail. Through the central Portsmouth City Council competition, PhD Researcher November Tan, PhD student Or Misgave and Faculty Administrative Service Centre Administrator, Ruth Hudson were selected by sponsors to bring their designs to life.
You can see their designs on the Pride of Portsmouth Website.
