Student wearing red

Join us in a national day of action on 16 October led by Show Racism the Red Card

12 October 2026

On Friday 16 October, you’re invited to take part in Wear Red Day 2026, a national day of action led by Show Racism the Red Card.

By simply wearing something red, we can join thousands of people across the UK in sending a clear message: racism has no place in our communities, our workplaces or our University.

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, Wear Red Day offers an opportunity to turn reflection into action. At our University, creating an inclusive environment where everyone feels they belong is central to who we are. Standing against racism is an important part of that commitment and a responsibility we all share.

Wearing red may be a simple act, but it represents something much bigger. It’s a visible sign of solidarity with fellow students, staff and communities who continue to experience racism and discrimination. It’s also a reminder that the culture we create every day is shaped by the choices we make: listening to different experiences, welcoming others, valuing different perspectives and speaking up when something isn’t right.

As we move through a busy autumn term, Wear Red Day also provides a moment to check in with one another and reflect on the kind of community we want to build together. The strongest communities are those where people feel seen, respected and supported, and where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Together, we can help create a University where everyone feels they belong and where our commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion is visible not only in what we say, but in what we do.

How to get involved

  • Wear something red on Friday 16 October.
  • Take a photo with your friends and show your support.
  • Start a conversation about what inclusion means on your course, friendship circle, sports team, society or job.
  • Take time to learn, reflect and consider how each of us can contribute to a more equitable community.
