Neptune Building is the Students’ Union's new temporary home while work is underway on the Student Hub, which will renovate the existing Students’ Union building and connect it to the Library.
Neptune Building officially opened today, Monday 20 April, as the new home of the Students’ Union. The newly refurbished space includes a new shopfront and reception, meeting rooms, three commons rooms, two activity/dance studios and a dedicated space for the student pantry. It will also be home to key Union services such as Student Groups, Representation and the Union Advice Service.
To celebrate and welcome students to the building, the Students’ Union are hosting a series of events, including:
- Daily tours – Monday 20 April to Friday 24 April, 10.00am and 4.00pm – join a guided tour of the building and get to know the new spaces available to you.
- Scavenger Hunt – Wednesday 22 April – explore the building, uncover hidden clues, and complete challenges as you make your way around the building, with freebies along the way.
- Escape Room – Thursday 23 April – gather your friends or meet new people as you work together to solve puzzles, crack codes, and beat the clock in a series of immersive escape room scenarios.
- SHagFest – Friday 24 April – the annual Sexual Health and Guidance Fest returns. Meet with charities and support services to find out more about your sexual health – plus free Domino's pizza!
- Stressless – Monday 27 April to Friday 1 May – expect a mix of chilled vibes, high-energy fun, and everything in between with activities taking place in Neptune and across campus to help you switch off and recharge.
The Union Shop and reception now features a new, bright shop front, stocking uni merch and a tuck shop, with drinks and snacks available at low cost.
Find this relaxed space on the ground floor. This is also where Union Shop events, such as Vintage Vera and Goose & Gander will take place.
The Space can be found on the 2nd floor and is a space for students to relax, study or meet friends. You’ll also find a student kitchenette to reheat food and make your own hot drinks.
Head to the 3rd floor for the Common Room, featuring soft furnishings, table tennis and foosball.
Union spaces are bookable for Student Groups via the usual process, or by emailing hello@upsu.net.
Student Hub
The Students’ Union will call Neptune Building home for around 18 months, during the construction of the Student Hub. During the project, the existing Students’ Union Building will be completely refurbished for the future, with an extension to connect the building to the University Library. Once built, the Student Hub will become the new heart of the campus, featuring the Students’ Union and Wellbeing facilities, as well as social, study and event spaces.
