Construction worker walking up the stairs of the Student Centre

The new Student Hub is moving forward, with hoardings set to go up around the Student Centre and Gun House Green.

18 August 2026

From Monday 24 August, Gun House Green (behind the Student Centre) will close as a site compound is built around the area, with construction on the Student Hub about to begin.

The Student Hub will see the Student Centre extensively renovated and extended, creating a new heart of the campus and a space designed around students’ needs.

Once complete, the new building will bring together the Students’ Union and Student Wellbeing, alongside a range of spaces for students to study, socialise and support their wellbeing. These will include social learning spaces and lounges, counselling facilities, a coffee bar, Union shop, a flexible events space and bar.

The Students’ Union moved from the Student Centre and into Neptune Building earlier this year to allow the renovation project to take place. Just a 2-minute walk away, the Students’ Union continues to offer the same excellent opportunities, activities and experiences to students.

Welcome events, including Freshers’ Fayre and Welcome Festival, are taking place as planned at Ravelin Park and will remain unaffected by the works.

The build

Construction is expected to begin in October 2026 and will take around 18 months to complete. Once the work is finished, Gun House Green will be available again.

The pathway on Cambridge Road will remain open initially, but is expected to close at a later date. Further details will be shared.

The completed Student Hub will create a welcoming destination at the centre of campus for students to learn, connect, relax and make the most of their university experience.
