The film

Directed by Matteo Garrone, the film portrays the harrowing experiences of two Senegalese youths, Seydou and Yaya who leave their homes in Dakar to reach Europe to pursue their  dreams. It is inspired by actual stories of migrants who cross the desert enduring humiliation and pain at the hands of criminals along the land routes across the Sahara Desert to reach the  northern shores of the island continent. Against the violent reality of human trafficking and  modern slavery, it also portrays a story of friendship, resilience and survival in a hostile environment.
