opening emails on a laptop

It's important to stay vigilant when opening emails, as phishing attempts are designed to look legitimate and can put your personal information at risk

1 April 2026

We are seeing a rise in targeted phishing emails impersonating senior staff members of the University of Portsmouth. These messages are becoming increasingly believable and are often designed to create urgency or request sensitive information. We have also seen a small number of people respond to these emails.

Please remain vigilant when reviewing any unexpected messages—especially those that ask you to share information, purchase gift cards, join WhatsApp groups, approve payments, or click links (here are some recent actual examples). If something feels out of place, it likely is.
