Global Week’s flagship event, the Festival of Cultures, proved as popular as ever this year, showcasing the incredible diversity in cultures within our university community.

Staff and students gathered in Ravelin Sports Centre to immerse themselves in the University's global cultures, through displays of music, food, costume and language.

Anna Værnes, Head of Student Life, said: "The Festival of Cultures is an opportunity for our students to share their culture with the rest of the university community. It's wonderful to see students so passionate about sharing their cultures with others, embracing their university experience and celebrating diversity with each other. The energy and positivity at Festival of Cultures is unique and something that has to be experienced!

"This year, there was food from all over the world, including Bangladesh, Kenya, Nigeria, Albania, Germany, Zambia and many more! Visitors could try their hand at Chinese calligraphy, Japanese origami, Scandinavian "kubb" (a lawn game), Indian Holi face paint, and there was a special performance from International Student Ambassador, Swapnil, and a group of school children from Cottage Grove Primary School who he's been teaching in his spare time.

Festival of Cultures is the flagship event for Global Week. Global Week is a hugely important event in the university calendar, as it celebrates the cultural diversity at the University and within our diverse local community."

Festival of Cultures Performance Showcase

Later that day, staff and students from over 150 countries gathered for an evening Performance Showcase to celebrate our University’s unique cultural blend with vibrant displays of dance and music from across the world.
