UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is replacing physical immigration documents with an online record called an eVisa. The documents that are being replaced include:

  • Biometric residence permits (BRP)
  • Biometric residence cards (BRC)
  • Passport endorsements (like indefinite leave to enter wet ink stamps)
  • Vignette stickers in passports (such as entry clearance or visa vignettes

BRP Card holders must create a UKVI account before their BRP expires on 31 December 2024

Please use your BRP to create a UKVI account to access your eVisa. You need to create a UKVI account to access your eVisa and share information about your immigration status and conditions. You should create your UKVI account before your BRP expires or if you are travelling overseas during the Christmas holidays.

Your BRP card expiry date may show as 31 December 2024. This does not mean that this is your visa expiry date. It is important that you create your eVisa account so that you can view your immigration (visa) status, and see your visa expiry date. Your visa expiry date is also stated on your visa issue letter.

You should continue to carry your BRP with you especially when you travel internationally.
