Poppy Remembrance

This autumn, the University of Portsmouth community is coming together to craft Remembrance through a beautiful evolving installation: The Living Poppy and Leaf Project.

Each handmade poppy tells a story, shares a memory, or offers a message of hope. Green leaves are lovingly placed in memory of staff and students who have passed away, symbolising their lasting impact on our university.  

Where to find the display:  

This installation will travel across campus on the following dates:  

  • 21 – 28 October – Portland Building Atrium 

  • 28 October – 4 November – Library Atrium  

  • 4 – 11 November – Ravelin Sports Centre Reception  

  • 11 November – Armistice Day Service 

  • 11 – 18 November – Chaplaincy Centre, St Pauls Road 

  • 18 – 25 November – Mercantile House Lobby  

  • 25 November – 2 December – Eldon Building, Ground Floor Space 

Get involved  

Want to be part of this living tribute? You’re warmly invited to add your own poppy to the netting at the base of the display. Whether you knit, crochet or craft – or just want to contribute – your poppy will help the sea of remembrance grow.  

Craft and connect drop-in sessions:  

Join us for relaxed, creative sessions where you can:  

Paint poppies using recycled plastic bottle ends, no experience needed and all materials are provided.  

  • Tuesday 21 October 2.00pm – 4.00pm – Portland Building, Room 0.32 (Staff and Students welcome) 
  • Thursday 23 October 2.00pm – 4.00pm – Chaplaincy Lounge, Chaplaincy Centre, St Pauls Road (Students Only) 
  • Tuesday 28 October 2.00pm – 4.00pm – Library Atrium (Staff and Students welcome) 
  • Wednesday 29 October 12-1pm – Eldon Building, Room ELM1.02 (in association with the Craft@Lunch Club) (Staff Only)
