We'll soon be starting to build a new multi-storey car park near Eldon. Here's what's happening and how it might impact you.

3 June 2026

Work will soon begin on a new mobility hub at the Eldon Building as part of the University’s long-term Estate Masterplan, and the existing car park will be closed.

While most students won’t be affected by the closure of the existing Eldon car park itself, if you study or spend time in nearby buildings, you may notice some construction activity.

What's happening?

  • The existing Eldon car park will close from 15 June. Permit holders can park in University House or Melbourne Place, with additional accessible bays added to University House.
  • Construction is expected to last around 12 months
  • Work on site will usually take place during the week, between 7.30am and 6.00pm

How might this affect you?

  • We’ve scheduled this to start after the main assessment and referral period, and the GradShow, to minimise the impact on your studies
  • Teaching spaces and building access will remain open
  • Pedestrian routes around the site will stay open and clearly signposted

Estate Masterplan

The project is part of the University’s £250 million Estate Masterplan, which is focused on improving facilities and creating a modern, connected campus. Other projects under the University’s Masterplan include the renovation of Wiltshire Building, creating a new home for Student Services, and the Student Hub, which will see the redevelopment of the Students’ Union into a vibrant wellbeing and social space for students.
