The University of Portsmouth Writing Prize 2025 is now open for student entrants. You can enter the competition to win the opportunity for your work to feature on the Writing Literary Portsmouth blog and receive signed copies of work by Portsmouth writers.

We ask that you write a poem composed of 30 lines or 300 words relating to the theme of time. This could be about a journey, aging, history, the future, nostalgia – the possibilities are endless.

The submissions will be open to students from Monday 31 March, and will close on Sunday 27 April. All entries should be emailed to uopwritingprize@port.ac.uk. We look forward to reading your creative and original poetry.

The prize giving event will take place on Thursday 8 May from 12.00pm to 1.00pm in Park Building 2.07. There will be food and drink provided. There will be prizes awarded to both shortlisted winners and our overall winner, and you will have the opportunity to congratulate everybody involved.

Feel free to spread the word and bring along fellow students to the event, the more the merrier!
