This session is aimed at students eligible for a placement year or year-long professional experience as part of their course.
We’ll provide guidance on staying motivated, approaching applications more effectively, maintaining momentum, and managing setbacks.

Ask a Placement Student: Stories, tips and advice
Thursday 19 February, 3pm-4pm, Richmond Building LT3
Hear from previous placement students from your faculty who share their real experiences of securing and completing a placement year.
You’ll hear first-hand stories about:
- How they found and secured their placement
- The challenges they faced and how they overcame them
- What was day-to-day life like in their roles
- The skills and qualities employers value most.
This is a great opportunity to gain practical advice, ask questions, and learn from students who’ve successfully navigated the placement journey. Whether you're just starting to explore options or actively applying, you’ll leave with valuable insights to boost your own search.
Advice for Finance, Housing and Wellbeing

Whether you’re still seeking a placement or have already secured one, this session will provide valuable support for your placement journey.
Hear from the Student Money, Student Wellbeing and Student Housing teams as they share practical advice on managing your finances, maintaining your wellbeing and understanding accommodation options in Portsmouth.

Ongoing support from your Placement team
The Placement team in Careers and Employability can help you find roles and review your applications. You can come along to our daily drop-in in the Careers Centre, Monday-Friday between 1pm-4pm to ask any quick questions you may have.
You can also come along to our weekly Placement Clubs, which take place every Tuesday and Thursday. These sessions are an opportunity to work on your placement search and applications in a relaxed environment with advisers and previous placement students.
Finally, if you'd prefer a more detailed 1-1 chat, you can book an online or in-person appointment with the team.
